Vauxhall Astra is new Top Gear 'Reasonably Priced Car'
Top Gear, the popular TV motoring entertainment show, has started again for its 20th series. For the first episode of the new series, presenters decided to introduce a new car to become its 'Reasonably Priced Car', choosing the ever-popular Vauxhall Astra.
The Astra will be used for the show's regular feature, called 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car', where celebrities drive on the Top Gear test track in the car, trying to set the fastest lap possible.
Previous cars to be used in the segment before the introduction of the Vauxhall Astra to the role include the Suzuki Liana, the Chevrolet Lacetti and, most recently, the Kia cee'd.
Top Gear will use the Vauxhall Astra's 'Tech Line' model as the new 'Reasonably Priced Car'. The mid-range 'Tech Line' trim is currently available with a 115bhp, 1.6-litre petrol engine, with prices starting from £16,540.
The first celebrities to take the wheel of Top Gear's Astra included Jimmy Carr, Joss Stone, Rachel Riley, David Haye, Brian Johnson and Warren Davies.
Vauxhall's Astra model will no doubt benefit from worldwide global exposure as Top Gear receives an estimated 350 million views in 170 different countries per week.
