Vauxhall Corsavan first to get Start/Stop

Vauxhall has released its first ever commercial vehicle with fuel-saving Start/Stop technology with the introduction of the Corsavan ecoFLEX.

Previously, the Euro 5 compliant 75PS 1.3 CDTi engine, introduced in place of the previous Euro4 compliant unit, did not include the technology, but Vauxhall has now included it on the latest versions.

The Start/Stop system saves fuel in busy traffic by switching off the engine when the car is stopped at traffic lights or in traffic jams instead of letting the engine idle. It then starts the engine again when the car is ready to move.

The result of the technology is a 12 per cent improvement in fuel consumption over the previous Euro 4 compliant engine. The van has been fitted with a new starter motor and a high performance battery to cope with the new Start/Stop system.

Emissions are lower in the new model as well thanks to a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) capable of reducing harmful particles.

Designed for city driving, the compact Corsavan is based on the Corsa supermini and as expected, offers handling and agility closer to a road car than a commercial vehicle.

The load area is a practical one metre square, making the van ideal for city deliveries and carrying loads up to 500kg.

The Vauxhall Corsavan ecoFLEX with Start/Stop costs £12,231 - £200 more than the 1.3 CDTi model without the technology.
