Vauxhall is expected to figure in The Royal Automobile Club’s Brighton to London Future Car Challenge in November.

All of the latest electric, hybrid and low emissions vehicles are expected feature in this 60-mile rally, making Vauxhall’s ecoFLEX range and the forthcoming Ampera a perfect fit.

Starting at Madeira Drive in Brighton and finishing in London’s Regent Street, the Future Car Challenge follows the Veteran Car Run course in reverse. Although not a competitive race, there is an optional challenge to use the least energy within a given time.

Every range in Vauxhall’s portfolio is now available with an ecoFLEX badge, including the Corsa – which features Start/Stop technology – and the best-selling MPV of the year so far, the Zafira. ecoFLEX models boast emissions as low as 99g/km without the use of hybrid technology.

The Ampera E-REV [Extended Range Electric Vehicle], on the other hand, is fitted with a lithium-ion battery as well as a small petrol generator. The result of this combination is an unprecedented range of up to 350-miles, which effectively makes ‘range anxiety’ a thing of the past.

The Future Car Challenge will run on Saturday 6 November.
