Vauxhall was the only car maker to boast three models in the top ten best-sellers of January 2012, it has been revealed.

According to the latest figures from the Society of Motoring Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the Vauxhall Corsa, Vauxhall Astra and Vauxhall Insignia all made it into the top ten most popular cars of 2012 to date.

The Corsa and Astra finished fourth and fifth in the top ten with 3,600 and 3,300 sales respectively. Meanwhile, the Vauxhall Insignia was once again the UK's favourite large family car, finishing seventh in the sales charts.

Vauxhall was one of the big winners as new car registrations rose by a small amount (around 200 cars) compared to January 2011, leading some to tentatively declare the car market is stabilising.

"The January new car market held firm with 128,853 registrations, marginally up on January 2011, a welcome sign of stability in uncertain economic times," said Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive.

He also described 2012 as being 'an exciting year' because of the record number of new cars set to be released.

Vauxhall is at the forefront of this model offensive with the likes of the new Vauxhall Zafira Tourer, on sale now from £21,000, and the new Vauxhall Astra GTC both being launched in recent months.

Vauxhall will also welcome the new Ampera extended-range electric car, priced from £29,000, to its line up in spring 2012.

The three new models are expected to boost Vauxhall sales further and help the manufacturer maintain its position near the top of UK sales charts.
