Vauxhall welcomes Plug-In Car Grant
Vauxhall has welcomed the news that the Plug-In Car Grant will go ahead as previously planned.
The Plug-In Car Grant will see up to £5,000 slashed off the list price of electric, plug-in hybrid or hydrogen fuel cell cars – such as the Ampera E-REV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle).
The grant will be commissioned on the proviso that cars meet safety, reliability, performance and warranty standards that have been set by the Office for Low Emissions Vehicles.
Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall Managing Director, says: “Today’s announcement is good news for the UK.
The recent tour of the Vauxhall Ampera in the UK has shown that an extended-range electric vehicle can be accepted as daily family transport."
It is believed that that the government could continue to invest in the UK automotive industry in order to make Britain a low-carbon world leader. This could take General Motors one step further in deciding whether to build the Ampera at the Ellesmere Port plant, the home of the Astra.
The Astra, Vauxhall’s best-selling model, shares the same platform as the Ampera and starts from £13,995. The Ampera is due for release in 2012 and prices are yet to be revealed.
