Vauxhall Zafira 'on sale for next three years'

The Vauxhall Zafira will go on sale alongside the new Vauxhall Zafira Tourer for at least three years, the car maker has revealed.

The launch of the new Vauxhall Zafira Tourer, on sale in March in the UK, was expected to spell the end for the popular seven-seat Zafira.

However, Vauxhall has put faith in its large people carrier by selling the two alongside each other until 2015.

The Vauxhall Zafira Tourer will sit above the Zafira in the range and this will be highlighted by the respective prices of the two. Vauxhall Zafira prices start from £18,500 for entry-level models while Zafira Tourer prices start from closer to £21,000.

Other differences include a new design for the Zafira Tourer including distinctive boomerang-shaped headlamps and a more luxury-oriented interior.

For example, the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer boasts a new take on the flexible seating system used on the Zafira with a focus on turning the interior into a 'lounge on wheels'. This means seats can be folded and moved individually to create more space inside.

However, Vauxhall expects Zafira Tourer sales to be relatively small and believes there is still a place on the market for the practical Zafira, which has won plaudits for its space, build quality and surprisingly agile driving dynamics.

Vauxhall calls the Zafira the 'original compact seven-seat family car' and offers it in four different equipment levels to suit different needs and budgets.

The Vauxhall Zafira is on sale now in the UK and the new Vauxhall Zafira Tourer will join the line up in March this year.
