The new Vauxhall Zafira Tourer has been recognised as one of the safest cars tested in European crash tests in 2011.

The seven-seat MPV was named runner up in the large family category, only finishing behind the smaller and less practical Volvo V60.

One of only a handful of cars praised out of the 53 tested over the course of the year, the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer was given a five-star safety rating by EuroNCAP, the industry-recognised organisation for testing new cars in Europe.

The Vauxhall Zafira Tourer scored an impressive 94 per cent in the adult safety category after a number of crash tests.

Other high scores in child occupant safety, pedestrian safety and safety assist also contributed to the Zafira Tourer's top score.

The Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is on sale in the UK now as the largest model in the Vauxhall range.

Capable of seating seven, the Zafira Tourer comes with advances in technology such as a 'Flex7' seating system offering folding and movement options for all seven seats.

It also comes with a Flexride system to control handling and refinement on the road, while the upmarket interior is designed to offer executive-levels of comfort for the driver and passengers.

As a large family car, the safety rating is expected to be one of the most important aspects of the car however and the latest acknowledgement proves the Zafira Tourer is one of the safest new cars on the market.

The Zafira Tourer comes with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to improve stability in corners, seatbelt reminder systems and driver, front passenger, body and side airbags.

The new Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is on sale now from £21,000.
