Vauxhall Agila Hatchback (2008 On) Performance
The Vauxhall Agila has two petrol engines, a 1.0 ecoFLEX and 1.2 plus a 1.3 litre diesel (also ecoFLEX). The 1.0 is excellent for town/city driving but with 65PS on tap finds longer journeys more challenging. It is nippy and sharp in its natural environment but the lack of power is noticeable around the national speed limit and above. The 1.2 litre petrol is the best overall choice, with an extra 20PS giving it the extra oomph needed outside the city limits whilst retaining the low down zest and similar fuel economy of the smaller engine.
The Agila diesel is considered by some to be a little too expensive, meaning only those drivers doing significant mileage will realise the benefits of improved mpg. It is a smooth and relaxed engine though and quite capable on all types of road.
Vauxhall Agila Hatchback (2008 On) Driving
The Agila has an excellent ride on all but the very bumpiest roads, with a suspension that is firm but controlled, making it great for whizzing around tight city streets. Light steering and a small turning circle further enhance the Agila’s status in its natural environment, making it a pleasure to drive in the city. On the motorways too the car rides well, feeling composed and settled, unlike some small cars which can get jittery.
Vauxhall Agila Hatchback (2008 On) Equipment
The equipment levels on the Vauxhall Agila excellent, with the entry level Agila Expression coming with ABS, front and side airbags CD player and speed sensitive power steering, making the steering lighter around town. The Club variant brings in remote central locking and 60/40 split rear seat while air conditioning and alloy wheels are standard on the Agila Design.
Vauxhall Agila Hatchback (2008 On) Practicality
A small car on the outside the Agila has enough room for 4 adults inside, with more luggage space than there initially appears. The split rear seat adds to the practicality of the Agila, allowing larger loads and a rear passenger to fit in together. The DualFloor boot, with an extra out of sight area, is also an excellent and practical use of space.
Vauxhall Agila Hatchback (2008 On) Quality
Reliability has never been a question for the Vauxhall Agila, the robust engines happy to keep on going for mile after mile. The interior trim and fittings also have a good feel to them, making the car feel more expensive than it actually is. When the car is moving engine noise is kept to a minimum in the cabin with a little wind noise evident but nothing over what would be expected.
Vauxhall Agila Hatchback (2008 On) Safety
Having not yet undergone the Euro NCAP tests there is no specific measure for the Vauxhall Agila, but it is expected to receive at least a four star rating, with a maximum five star possible. Fitted as standard with ABS, four airbags and Emergency Brake Assist the Agila ticks all the right boxes. Some models also have Electronic Stability Control to further enhance driver and passenger safety.
Vauxhall Agila Hatchback (2008 On) Running costs
With a combined fuel consumption figure of 56.5mpg for the 1.0 petrol and 62.8mpg for the diesel the Agila is certainly frugal when it comes to visiting petrol station forecourts. Insurance costs are also attractive, with group 1 insurance available on the 1.0 ecoFLEX Expression. Service intervals are every 10,000 miles or 12 months and drivers will also find that annual road tax is low thanks to the emissions values, aided especially by the ecoFLEX technology which is designed to make the best use of fuel and reduce emissions where possible.
