Vauxhall Antara SUV (2007-2010) Performance
The Vauxhall Antara is available with either a 2.4 litre petrol engine or 2.0 litre diesel, the diesel variant being the more powerful of the two with 150PS and 320Nm compared with 140PS and 220Nm. Both engine types are capable on the road, with decent cruising speeds easy to maintain. Both engines are very happy low down in the rev range, where the torque available is perfect for towing and dealing with challenging terrain.
Vauxhall Antara SUV (2007-2010) Driving
With a relatively compact design and soft suspension the Antara seems very much at home in the city, able to get into tight spaces and also capable of dealing with less than perfect surfaces. This ability to ride the bumps does mean more bodyroll in the corners though, albeit when pressing on which is not the Antara’s normal state.
Vauxhall Antara SUV (2007-2010) Equipment
The Antara is a very well equipped car, both from a technical viewpoint – 4 wheel drive, hill descent control, Electronic Stability Programme with trailer support – and comfort – air conditioning, heated front seats, chilled glovebox and cruise control. These are just some of the many excellent features on the car, all of which combine to make it an appealing prospect all round.
Vauxhall Antara SUV (2007-2010) Practicality
A four wheel drive with plenty of room for passengers and luggage the Antara is a very practical car, able to handle many different environments easily. The load area can also be used for bigger jobs, the rear seats folding down flat to make life much easier when bulky items need to be carried. The aforementioned compact design of the car and good driving position also improve the car’s practicality in towns and cities, making it easy to drive and park.
Vauxhall Antara SUV (2007-2010) Quality
The Vauxhall Antara is built in the Far East and has proved to be a well put together and reliable car. With a high specification level the quality feel to the car is evident throughout. Further testament to the quality of the Antara is the way technology has been brought into the car, with the intuitive 4x4 system and hill descent control marking the car out as particularly special.
Vauxhall Antara SUV (2007-2010) Safety
The Antara has not undergone the Euro NCAP safety test yet, though the car it is based on, the Chevrolet Captiva, earned a very respectable four star rating. With front, side and curtain airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Programme and four wheel drive of course the car feels safe and secure. Child seats also use the isoFIX mounting system to ensure they are fitted correctly.
Vauxhall Antara SUV (2007-2010) Running costs
Buying the Antara from new the purchase price is similar to other competitors, though the excellent specification makes it stand out. Servicing is done every 12 months or 10,000 miles, with costs normally very reasonable, and insurance is competitive thanks to the relatively low insurance groups (11 to 13). Fuel consumption is fair for the petrol version, with a combined figure of 29.4mpg, though the diesel proves a better option here delivering 37.2mpg combined.
